Scientific Integrity
The robust health, economic success and religious freedom that our nation enjoys are under threat—and lack of good science, based on evidence instead of mere consensus, is a root cause. Political, financial, and ideological motivations lead to publication and promotion of inaccurate or incomplete data, biased interpretation of results and even distorted extrapolation, resulting in many serious consequences. First, our health and well-being are compromised as our physicians become ill-informed and unknowingly prescribe unnecessary and even harmful medications. Second, the currently enforced conformity to scientific consensus causes our thinking and questioning to become restricted and inaccurate, resulting in stifling of the scientific and technological innovation for which the USA is famous in the global marketplace. Finally, ideologically motivated slanting of presentation of scientific data leads to erroneous and unfounded conclusions about religious questions. Most scientists, engineers, and physicians are passionate about discovering and promoting accurate science, but are hampered by the inevitable pressure to secure grants, promotions, and even just retain their jobs. It is therefore vital that scientists, engineers, physicians, students, and the public make a stand for scientific integrity. If you are willing to agree that you are engaged in an honest quest for the truth, and to the best of your abilities will conduct your scientific endeavors in a way that is consistent with the above, please go to the appropriate page and sign the AITSE scientific integrity pledge.
