Scholars at Risk Network: Academia and censorship
Did you know that most students and faculty feel it is unsafe to voice “unpopular opinions on campus”? The Scholars at Risk Network is working to promote academic freedom and prevent repression of “research, publication, teaching and learning”. A quick look at their website suggests that their scholars usually come from other countries.
But, do not be misled. The suppression of academic freedom is rampant right here in the United States. And the resultant problems are serious– job loss for many scientists and professors and stifling of the scientific and technological originality for which the USA is famous. However, the news is not all bad. Many organizations are catching the vision–and SAR seems to be one of them.
